TOMORROW: Telepresser Launching New Report On Climate Threats In Trump’s NAFTA Agenda
Speakers Include Rep. Pramila Jayapal, Report’s Authors
WASHINGTON, D.C. — With talk of trade wars and NAFTA’s renegotiation intensifying, the Sierra Club worked with economists from the United States, Canada, and Mexico and will launch a new report that presents original research quantifying NAFTA’s climate impacts and exposing the climate threats hidden in Trump’s plans for the deal. Right now, Trump’s negotiators are discussing climate-denying proposals for NAFTA 2.0 that could lock in Trump’s polluting legacy for decades. In contrast, the new report outlines specific ideas — echoing proposals from leading members of the U.S. Congress — for replacing NAFTA with a deal that protects people, not polluters.
What: Coinciding with the release of the report, NAFTA 2.0: For People Or Polluters? on Tuesday, April 17, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal and the report’s authors will reveal the climate pollution locked in by NAFTA, lay out proposals for a climate-friendly NAFTA replacement, and expose new climate hazards hidden in Trump’s NAFTA 2.0 agenda.
